Ode

Inspired by Vincent van Gogh and the Post-Impressionist movement, I aimed to emulate the essence of impressionism in this oil painting. A key technique I experimented with was optical mixing, allowing colors to interact visually rather than being pre-blended on a palette. I also applied a layering approach, working with colors directly from the tube to enhance vibrancy and texture.

I chose the fox as my subject for its symbolism of strength, intelligence, and beauty. The expressive quality of mark-making plays a crucial role in my creative process, and I found great enjoyment in bringing this piece to life. The pauses between sessions, allowing the paint to dry, became an integral part of the work’s evolution, adding depth and richness to the final composition.
